MAIN AGITATORS

Top Entering Agitators are the most frequently used type of agitators. The drive unit is located on top of the closed or open tank, and rotates the impeller (or impellers) by means of a vertical shaft. 
Rotating speed plus type and diameter of impeller(s) are chosen by INDUTEC to fulfil the required process results for each application. Also, the length of the shaft makes it necessary to calculate and avoid the critical rpm for each agitator design.
The most common design is one bottom propeller mounted to the end of the shaft, positioned at a specific distance (depending on the application) above the bottom of the tank. For special applications multiple impellers may be mounted on the same shaft.

Mounting position

When the agitator is mounted in the centre of a circular tank, the tank must be furnished with baffles to prevent the liquid from rotating. Higher viscosity may not require any baffles. ("Rule-of-thumb": Width of baffles should be 0.1 x tank diameter).
When the agitator is mounted excentric in a circular tank, no baffles are required. However, additional reaction forces from the tank walls usually make it necessary to design an excentric agitator for heavier duty. ("Rule-of-thumb": Agitator should be mounted 1/3 of tank diameter from the wall).
When the agitator is mounted in a square tank, no baffles are required.

Mounting frame

Usually the agitator is equipped with a mounting flange, and the tank supplier or owner has to design and supply the counter flange on top of the tank.  Information about torque, bending moment and weight is included in each INDUTEC agitator quotation. 
Note: Mounting frame (or bridge) across open tanks can be quoted optionally by INDUTEC

Volumes

The agitators may be designed for volumes from 100 litres up to 100,000 m3

Liquid level

The agitator should be rotated only when the liquid level is above the bottom impeller 
("Rule-of-thumb": Liquid level should be 1/2 of the impeller diameter above the impeller)
